DESCRIPTION
The original The North Face Summit L5 Jacket.  Identical to the current Summit L5 Jacket in almost every way.  While the current jacket uses Futurelight 3L waterproof/breathable fabric, this jacket was designed using DryVent 3L waterproof/breathable fabric.  Though The North Face considers Futurelight 3L to be there most advanced tech to date, DryVent 3L is nothing to laugh at.  This is what their website has to say about this remarkable technology which they created "to provide maximum protection, performance and comfort":

DryVent
™ fabrics using a 3 Layer construction are primarily used on high performance technical styles that are designed for the most extreme user in their activity segment. These textiles are designed to be extremely durable and breathable and are used for longer durations in severe conditions. These types of fabrications are specified for use in our most technical clothing and accessories."
The remaining differences are a very short list of relatively minor feature variations.  The full list is as follows:
1. Bellowed hand pocket: zippered pocket at belly height at front/right of jacket. Circled in red.

Aside from looks, the material tag and price tag shows just how indistinguishable these two jackets really are.  With the exception of 1 "pocket lining", material/textile is the exact same (see black tag comparison photo) and the retail price is a difference of just ; 0 (Futurelight) vs. 9 (Dryvent).  The
REAL
difference is the savings!
